"Poise, Posture, and Profanity" is a dual exhibit featuring the works of Arabella Proffer and Andrea Heimer. Despite their different styles and technique, both artists share a love of portraiture with loose references to history and pop culture. Their common themes of feminine power, fashion, beauty and design can at times even contain a hint of the sinister. Arabella will be debuting a new series of her fashionable punk and gothic aristocrats, this time consisting of miniatures. Andrea will be exhibiting recent works from her "Voyeur" and "Pulp" series; voyeuristic watercolors painted from the perspective of a camera lens aimed at her subjects and bright, dramatic acrylics of red-lipped women inspired by the pages of romance comics.
Andrea Heimer, currently residing in the Pacific Northwest, is a self-taught artist who is also a published writer and one half of the musical duo, No-Fi Soul Rebellion. Andrea creates expressive silk screened and hand painted pieces that evoke jubilance and indulgence; a juxtaposition of bold color and pattern, inspired by romance comics, tragic saints and wishful thinking. She continually works in a series, including psychedelic and iconic portraits, coveted objects and positive reinforcement. Her pen & ink drawings are her first work in print and have recently made their way onto Keds sneakers.
Arabella Proffer-Vendetta is a Cleveland based artist and co-founder of indie label Elephant Stone Records. Her innate technique and style has been referred to as Neo-Realism; likened to those of Deco painters Tamara de Lempicka and Christian Schad. Inspired by European history and grand New York socialites, her paintings are rich in decadence, beauty and self-confidence. Introduced to counter-cultures at a young age, Arabella combines high and low brow culture within her work, vividly creating portraits of pierced and tattooed noble men and women. A graduate of California Institute of the Arts, her works have been exhibited across North America and in Europe.
